I found The Crystilleries of Echoland by Dew Pellucid to be a rather engaging story with many elements to it. We learn that our main character, Will Cleary, was kidnapped as a baby along with his twin sister. He mysteriously returns along with what become his guardian pets, a falcon and a wolf, that stay with him as he grows up. Never giving up hope of finding his long lost sister that his parents can’t forget, Will goes on a search near the lake where he was found upon his return. His guardian pets save him and he learns about what they really are: echos, who inhabited the deceased bodies of a falcon and wolf. Echos are the see-through people that correspond the humans born in the “sound” realm. As it turns out, Will’s echo is the rightful prince and heir to Echoland, but his uncle has taken the throne after the death of the king and does not want to relinquish power the rightful heir of the prince on his 13th birthday… mere days away. Due to a law of death in Echoland, the King is trying to have Will Cleary killed, so that his corresponding echo, the prince, must also die at the hands of Fate Sealers. From here we are taken on an adventure of action, stealth, strategy, and teamwork as many come together to find the clues that will pave the way for the prince of Echoland to take his rightful place as king.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It really drew me into the story and wanting to know what would happen. Pellucid does a great job of using descriptive language to give full imagery as to what is going on and what things look like. I will admit, however, that there are times when there is a lot going on that the details seem a little unorganized and it is harder to see what is happening or who is talking to whom. However, every time by the end of the scene it is all pulled together and understandable which to me, saves it from losing any stars.

I would believe this book to be best suited for tweens and young adult readers, although I very much enjoyed as an older adult as well. I quite enjoyed and appreciated that there was some complexity to the novel. Many things were not as they seemed and therefore were unexpected. All loose ends were tied up so the reader is not left with any unanswered questions. This book I would actually love to see turned into a movie and I certainly believe it would captivate its audience.
