Vampires and werewolves think you have heard this story before? Think again. The Witch of Endor: Vampires by R.K. Wheeler is a story unlike any I have ever read before. This story follows two characters, Lamech and Lilith. Lamech is cursed for eternity and becomes the very first vampire. Lilith is magical but after falling in love with Lamech, decides to become a vampire as well. Meanwhile, werewolves are created and are determined to take out all vampires. Will they succeed? Who will win this war? Will Lamech and Lilith’s love survive?
To be honest, I was a little leery about this book because there are so many elements. There are vampires, werewolves, Greek mythology, and Biblical references. Before I started reading this book, I had wondered how everything was going to fit and was concerned if the storyline would flow. The author managed to immerse the reader into this paranormal world. The details were so fantastic that sometimes I felt like I was reading a part of our history. Also, it was really enjoyable to read the back stories of how vampires became to be.
If you take away the paranormal characters, you are left with a love story and a tale about war. The love story of Lamech and Lilith is intriguing and devastating. As a reader, I was unsure if I should root for them to succeed or encourage them to fail. The war is the same as it is in our modern world, except this one is between vampires and werewolves. The author did an amazing job with the battle scenes. They were intense and very detailed. I was definitely on the edge of my seat while reading.
I absolutely enjoyed the characters in this book. Lamech is the antagonist of this story. He carries the burden of Cain’s curse for eternity. As the story goes on, the reader begins understanding why Lamech is the way he is. I am intrigued to see how the author will develop this character in the next book. Lilith is by far my favorite. She is a strong and independent woman gifted with magical powers. Throughout the story, she is courageous, fierce, influential and nurturing. The character that shocked me the most was Medusa. This story began with her as a newborn and by the end she becomes a teenager. Her story is enticing and engaging. Medusa seems to be attempting to figure out who she really is and how she fits in the world. Not unlike an average mortal teenager, except she is forced to remain hidden around most because they will turn into stone.
I finished this book in just a couple of days because I couldn’t get enough of it. It was well edited and carefully organized. This was especially surprising for me because as I mentioned earlier, I was a bit hesitant about all of the various elements. The author also switched between Lamech and Lilith’s stories seamlessly. I sincerely felt like there was never a dull moment because this creative story was filled with suspense and action.
The conclusion of this book was irritating but in an admirable way. The author abruptly concluded the story so that the reader would be begging for the second book, which worked in my case. I cannot wait to devour the second portion of this story. I would recommend this book to paranormal fans and action lovers. I would not recommend this book to readers that do not enjoy the paranormal. With all of this said, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 .
