When the mighty and wise Lord Venden Hrelek found an enormous yet infertile land called “The Auburn Plains,” he took the opportunity and used his wit to transform the land into a productive place. With his courage and intelligent tactic, Lord Venden succeeded. The once quiet and plain place was turned into the most productive city.

In We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko , Matthew Tysz introduced us into two worlds: the physical and the magical. Virko the most productive iron city where many, if not all envied. Along with its swift increase of economic status, darkness eventually tag along. During this swarthy times, will the envious adversaries win or Virko’s honest and mighty leaders will defeat their enemies threats?

We follow Galen Bray, a noble man and was still new in Voulhire. He is young, strong, and anxious to start his new life, yet Voulhire is busy with other things. Beneath its innovative outlook, the city is secretly filled with dirty problems inside its premises. The current government leaders created an evil plan by replacing feudalism with capitalism because they wanted to own supremacy in a new type of government. Will science, faith, and magic be on Galen’s side? Will he succeed in his new quest?

The description of the book inspired me to read it when it appeared on my reviewer list. I always thought that dark fantasy books has a savory taste that could open up people’s appetite and Tysz proved me right. The first thing I noticed was the map on the first page which I think was helpful. Also, the impact of the characters were impressive due to their different personalities. For instance, King Wilhelm, despite his power he remained humble to his people and Kayden Morgan, who remained noble and kind despite his wealth. In my opinion, the author did plan his plot and characters well prior to the publicity of his book because I was intensified while I was reading the material. I have no minor nor major concerns about it. I found the book satisfying and worthy, so, I award it 4 out of 4 stars .

To the fan of dark fantasy genre, I recommend this book to you. It offered an intense story line that will encourage you to turn the pages on. In addition, the narration was clear and straightforward, there are no unnecessary dialogues, so, surely it’s a swift read. Furthermore, since it has powerful characters, I am pretty certain that you can relate to any of them and, perhaps be inspired.

How was the character development? Would you say there was a lot going on in the story?

The characters were strong in their own ways and very provoking. They gave out a lot of life to the book. And, yes there is..Actually, it is a series. You should try the first book.

Although this doesn't really sound like what I know as "dark fantasy," it does sound somewhat interesting. I may have to give this one a look. Good Review!

You are right, the title does seem intriguing. I am glad the book didn't disappoint. I suspect the magic isn't the 'princess kiss frog' kind. Thanks for the enchanting review!

Thank you for agreeing ;) And yup, it's not like that at all. Its more of like a harry potter magic spells where you kill your enemies with it.

Great review! I just began reading the first installment of this series. I loved your view on how dark fantasy can open one's appetite and I couldn't agree more with that perspective. I love dark fantasy myself and look forward to reading this series

I have read and reviewed this book. Indeed, the author has done a great job with character development. It does have dark elements to it, but I not sure about its classification as ‘dark fantasy.’ Thanks for the review.
