One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams is a story of two strangers, brought together by fate, that take a chance on love. Calder Benedict runs her own multi-million dollar non-profit. While she was born into a life of wealth, she does not let this negatively impact her desire to help others. As a consequence of that wealth, she and her sisters learned early on that people, especially men, were not to be trusted as they were deceitful, manipulative fortune hunters. Along comes Adam Stone, an honest, dependable man with no apparent agenda. He and Calder have a chemistry that ignites quickly and stays lit throughout their journey to find love. That is, unless Calder’s inability to trust tears them apart.
The characters in the story are very well-written. Adam is the perfect balance of strong, masculine, sexy protector while maintaining a caring, considerate nature. Calder is also a great heroine for the story and a perfect match for Adam. She is down-to-earth, intelligent, and independent. There is a depth to their characters that allows you to understand how and why they think/behave like they do. They are some of my favorite characters to-date. The supporting characters in the story are great and add a healthy level of complexity to the story.
I enjoyed this book immensely! It was one of the best romance books I have read in a while. The story between Calder and Adam was entertaining and authentic. The characters were extremely likeable. What I liked most about this book was the chemistry between the hero and heroine. The intense attraction and playful personalities had me rooting for them to succeed as a couple! There was a natural progression to their relationship that was very well conveyed through the book. What I disliked most about the book was, at times, the author was slow to fill in all the gaps in the setting such as time and place. They questions were eventually answered, but because they were not at the beginning, it made it difficult to picture the scene mentally. It interrupted my flow of reading.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed it immensely. The book appears to be professionally edited. I found only two typographical errors. While there are some incomplete sentences in places, they appear to be intentional to add dramatic effect. They do not detract from the reading at all.
I recommend this book for those who are 18+ that love a good romance. There is some cursing throughout the book and several scenes with adult content though not explicit.
This is the first book in a series of four. While the hero/heroine storyline is completed in this book, there are some storylines that are not. They will likely resolve in later books. In fact, I already have the second book downloaded to my Kindle and can’t wait to get started reading it. (It’s free with Kindle Unlimited!!)
