Books play an important role in our lives. We read some books for information, some for religious reasons and some for entertainment. Usually, we read them and keep them aside. But if we think about the hard work behind writing a book, then we would realize that we should appreciate good work. The Sparrow by Denna M. Davis is one of those books that deserve appreciation. This book is a series book, and this one is the first book of the series. It is 318 pages long.
The story is about Amanda, a sixteen-year-old girl who came to visit her grandparents during her summer vacation. Amanda was suffering from a horrible incident in her life. Some boys had tried to assault her sexually. But Amanda's life was going to change very soon. Her grandparents took her to a place through a big door. Eventually, Amanda got to know that her grandparents took her to Emaji. it was an alien planet with two moons. Amanda felt that she was stuck there forever. She met an alien with big wings who helped her find her grandmother. When she met her grandmother, she got to know that there was a prophecy that a girl called the Sparrow was going to save all the Emajians from the cruel king Zorn. Everybody believed that Amanda was the Sparrow. Within one day, Amanda's life was changed unexpectedly.
This book is a perfect mixture of science fiction and fantasy. I got so involved in the story that I didn't want to stop reading for even one second. This story has a lot of elements for entertainment such as a vivid imagination of another world, a perfect story that has a villain, a hero, and a heroine, different and interesting terms which will give readers the essence of another world, etc.
I mostly liked the imagination and creativity. I am very impressed with the whole idea of the planet. The alien's skin tone and their culture were awesome to read. The planet's beauty was very impressive as well. There was another thing which caught my attention. The planet's history presented a prediction of our future. The different terms to represent the position of a person in the community were innovative. Last but not least, I really enjoyed the love story of Amanda and Solomon. That was the most enjoyable part for me.
There was nothing which I didn't like. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. I never felt bored, even for one second. With every new chapter, new surprises came out. I appreciate Davis' work.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't give it a 3 because there was nothing which I didn't like. The editing was also very good. There were different fonts as the story required it. So the book was well-edited. A big recommendation to those who like to read a science fiction novel. Also, people who like fantasy stories or superhero stories should read this book. I guarantee that you won't regret.
