The narrative We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Mathew Tysz is the second book of his “We are Voulhire” series, the genre being Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
It is written in relation to the author’s interactions with people, pondering on their deeds and actions, and developing tales in line with his expectations of what they would undertake next. Mathew Tysz visualizes people being subjected to situations beyond their comfort zone, and thereafter reflects on the results of such exposure.
The author is of the opinion that a great narrative is as a result of decisions made at the time of crisis.
The narrative takes place in several locations and the Island of Voulhire where the royal court of King Wilhelm is located. The inhabitants of Voulhire cherish industry. The narrative is intricately woven with matters that touch on the day to day fabric of the society such as; industry, politics, business, education and succession being brought up.
In one of the chapters in the book, Virko’s Lord Venden Hrelek reveals to a character by the name Demetrius that a bound demon exists and the story unfolds with twists and turns. Questions arise; who really is this demon? Will Demetrius fulfil the dying Lords wish? This awakens the reader’s curiosity and empathy as well. Dalehei Meldorath’s sentiments ‘Everything, no matter how great, is just a means to someone else’s end,’ interestingly gives rise to the third series of Mathew Tysz’s books; “We are Voulhire”.
The narrative is very compelling and thought-provoking. It reveals the authors creative genius.
What I liked most about the book “We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko” is the author’s unrivalled insight of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy realms. He does not spare any inch of his realms reservoirs. That is what I liked most.
What I disliked most about the book is that there is no indication of the book’s series number. Just to hypothesize, he could have stated; the second book of “We are Voulhire” series. This makes it easier for readers to know where in the hierarchy this book lies among Tysz’s series. That is what I disliked most.
“I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.” I gave it this rating because, it is, by all means, a very interesting read. I did not give it a rating of 3 stars because the book is thoroughly edited. There were no noticeable errors, typos, spelling or grammatical mistakes.
The book would most appeal to people, audiences or readers with a liking for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre. It would also appeal to those who like adventurous escapades with dangerous undertakings. It would not appeal to readers whose interest is not inclined to this particular genre.
