One way or another by Mary J. Williams
I liked this book very much. I liked the pace, I liked the way the story was engaging from the very first page to the last and I liked the way the characters fell in love. The book is written in a very simple language and it is very straightforward from the beginning.
The author begins by introducing the reader to the four Benedict sisters (Calder, Bryce, Andi and Destry) who are all charming and unique in their own ways. The sense of family between the four sisters is very evident throughout the story. The sisters are very close despite the fact that they don't share the same fathers. Their mother Billie is not one of the best mothers in the world, as she is not around a lot of the time. Growing up, all the girls have is each other and they support each other through and through.
The four sisters learned from a young age to be protective of one another seeing as their parents were not really around very often. They learned to depend on the bond they shared as sisters to get them through even the hardest times. Their mother, who they lived with most of their time in their fancy New York mansion, spent most of her time flitting from one man to another as she loved being the centre of attention. Her children were clearly not her priority and she is portrayed as a selfish self-absorbed woman.
This is the first of The Sisters Quartet series and it focuses on Calder Benedict and her love story with Adam Stone. Theirs is a sweet love story that is engaging and well paced.
Calder and Adam met in an unusual way where Adam rescues her from a particularly bad date and proceeds to call her out on her choice of men. After that incident they run into each other a few times before Adam asks her out on a date.
Both Calder and Adam are different in terms of character and they also come from different backgrounds. Calder is a strong woman who does not know how to take no for an answer. This is seen when she fights for her charity organization and manages to get donors which keep it afloat. Calder is also a hardworking woman despite the fact that she comes from wealth. She is a caring woman, seeing as she runs a charity that reaches out to many people. She is definitely not your typical rich girl. Adam on the other hand is a down to earth jack of all trades. He does not come from wealth but rather has worked for what he has. He is a hardworking responsible man. He is also wise and a visionary and this is seen when he chooses to make wise investments for his future. The fact that he a handsome and a practical man is definitely a bonus. Both Calder and Adam have never been in serious relationships before but this does not stop them from falling in love with each other.
One thing I loved about this book was the character development. The characters were very well developed. Every character was given their own unique traits which brought them to life. The themes in this book were also another thing I liked about it for example: the sense of unity and the love between the sisters. The fact that all of the sisters were strong independent women pursuing their different career choices and succeeding at them is an inspiration to any woman reading this book. The book manages to dive in the unique characters of each one of the sisters while still keeping the attention on Calder and Adam.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as the author is clearly talented in bringing her characters to life. The way she describes them is uniquely refreshing and the ending is really sweet. This is a good romance book with a happily ever after ending that leaves the reader wanting to pick up the next book in the series. The perfect rating is also because the book seems to be professionally edited as I did not find any grammatical errors.
I would recommend this book to someone who was looking a good contemporary romance book with a sweet ending. This is a romance story with a touch of drama and suspense and would be a delight to anyone looking for a good solid romance story.
