The Dark Web Murders by Brian O'Hare is a mystery book about murder cases and the efforts of a police unit, lead by Inspector Sheehan, to solve them. It is the fourth book in The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries series.
A thorough investigation is initiated following the murder of Judge Neeson. Inspector Sheehan organizes his team. After investigating the crime scene and getting preliminary report from the judge's secretary, they decide to launch an investigation which targets a group that had a meeting in the same house in the evening of the murder. As duties are allocated and questionings begin, several other similar murders take place. They are now subjected to an additional task, stopping the next murder.
Detective Stewart, inspector Sheehan's companion, later discovers that all these murder crimes are posted in a blog by the murderer. The problem is that these posts are made in a Dark Web: an encrypted side of the normal web where only "dark" things take place. Will they finally solve the murder cases and bring the murderer to book?
The beginning of the book portrays exactly what the whole book is about, murder. I must say that this is not just one of those normal mystery novels; this combines murder with philosophy, the murderer has a reason, and a thought-provoking one for that matter, for his crimes. That's not enough, he actually enjoys executing them. I was forced to get off the book for some minutes and do an internet research about the dark web and the Tor browser; I was surprised to notice that they actually exist! Thanks to the author for increasing my knowledge.
What I liked most about this book is it's uniqueness and flawlessness. On uniqueness, the book tries to explain reasons for the murder using complicated philosophical arguments about justice. I also didn't notice any grammatical or spelling error.
Though not brought out in black and white, there are some gay related elements I didn't like, but that's just my personal taste and interpretation and doesn't necessarily mean that the book is gay related or advocate for the same.
To conclude, this book was such a nice read with enough suspense to keep you glued to the screen throughout the reading. I therefore rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to freethinkers and anyone who likes mystery novels. Like I said, the book has some tiny elements of gay related contents and therefore not suitable for minors.
