Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is the seventh installment of the Inca Book Series. This children’s book series follows the lives of Inca, a kitten and head of a detective agency, and her kitten siblings and their human Mother. The story is told from Inca’s perspective and is about her family trip from London to Sri Lanka. While the kittens enjoy the beach and meet new animal friends, a mystery unfolds. A precious sword and golden coins are stolen from a local museum. Friends of another detective agency fly to Sri Lanka to investigate the case and Inca joins in. While the group of humans, kitties, and dog drives around Sri Lanka, they see new sights and learn more clues about the stolen artifacts. Will Inca make a break in the case?
I found this children’s story very charming and enjoyable to read. The pace was good and the different side adventures and the interactions between the siblings of kitties was entertaining. The author also did a great job in representing the kinds of animals and sights the family would actually see in Sri Lanka. While I felt some of the word choices were a bit advanced for the age group that will enjoy this book, I do see this as a good interactive book for parents and teachers to read to their children and pupils (respectively). Indeed, this book will help broaden a child’s vocabulary.
Also, throughout the book, there are colorful illustrations of the characters in different scenes. I found the artwork pleasing and playful, but I wish there were more scenes depicted.
Although there were a few grammatical errors, I do give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was enjoyable to read and the artwork complimented the story well. I believe children ages 4-10 will enjoy this story and I think this will be an excellent book for parents to read to their children. I will definitely be recommending this series to my family members with young children.
