Even though Will takes a school bus that is fitted with rockets to get to his school on the giant hill, Will is just your average 10 year old boy. He loves recess, reading comics, and spending time with his best friend. Will of the Hill by Marshall Cobb is the first book of the Will of the Hill series. Even though Will and his friend attend an extraordinary school, the dilemmas that they face are typical of today’s fifth graders: tattlers, boogers, and strict teachers.

Although this is a children’s book, as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters Cobb created. The story flows well and I read the book in one sitting without getting bored. I found myself back in fifth grade, and I easily felt the angst and the frustration that Will felt. There is also humor throughout the book which made it very enjoyable and light-hearted.

This book is not only entertaining but there are also learnable moments worked into the story. These range from the importance of hygiene to the consequences of being mean. The life lessons are very age appropriate for the intended audience.

In addition to the predicaments that Will found himself in, a side story concerning the mystery behind the school was developed as well. Although we do not learn the mystery of the school by the end of the book, I hope that the author reveals those answers in the next one.

Aside from a few misplaced hyphens, this book was well edited. I gladly give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was entertaining and well written. I love this book so much, I will be buying a copy for my nephew. I think children ages 7-13 will enjoy this book. I also see this as a great book for parents to read and enjoy with their kids.

I keep seeing great reviews on this book! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It really does sound like a well-rounded book with both frustrations and fun for the main character. Awesome review!

This seems like such a fun book for school aged children, plus who wouldn't be intruiged by a school bus with rockets?! Great review!
