Inca, a Siberian cat detective, is the head of the detective agency named Inca and Company. She and her furry siblings, along with their human mom, were having their vacation in a village called Galle in Sri Lanka when trouble occurred. A very valuable and antique sword had just been stolen from a museum in Colombo, and Inca, being a snoopy cat, decided to investigate. Together with Rani, a small sea turtle, and Meena, a baby elephant, Inca and Company try to track down the stolen sword and the culprit behind it.
Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is the seventh book of the Inca Cat Detective Series written by R. F. Kristi. It is a wonderful children’s book where the main characters are adorable house pets like cats, hamsters, and dogs. In this particular story, the readers are also introduced to more animals that are found in Sri Lanka including leopards, elephants, sea turtles, and monkeys.
What I like most about the book is that it is very informative in terms of having facts and trivia about Sri Lanka and animals. Being a book for children, I think it is good that kids also learn from what they are reading aside from just getting a satisfying story. The book is also abundant in terms of storytelling. It has a side story aside from the main arc and I find that it makes the book more adventurous and exciting. The characters themselves have their own personality and are true to their animal nature. For example, Terrence, their dog friend, was excited to see the beach and went splashing joyfully onto the water. The narrative is also easy for children to read, and the colorful illustrations make the book even more appealing.
I do not have anything in particular that I don’t like about the book, but I do want to mention a small detail where Inca and her friends rode on the back of an elephant. The mother elephant was happy to do it in the story, and it is a sensitive topic that is discussed in some places, but hopefully, parents will be able to guide their children about the proper treatment of animals and their true nature being creatures from the wild.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn’t find any errors in it and it seemed like it was professionally edited. It has a great plot, and it is a wonderful book for children to love and to get to know animals. I would recommend this to kids of any age, and also to parents to read to their children, especially if they like mystery-adventure stories and animals.
