Jack Winnick has composed an intriguing and masterful work within the Date Farm. The Date Farm is a politically realistic thriller novel that places the protagonists, Lara and Uri, against an Islamic foe that is highly similar to realistic military enemies of the United States. It is a rapidly paced, high tension thriller novel that makes use of real world military technology, jargon and strategy to depict a high stakes international scenario with a technical and professional level of detail. It blends real world military concepts with a surprisingly deep and thoughtful emotional relationship, depicting the depth of human emotions in times of conflict and showing a unique side of our world.
Overall, The Date Farm is a work which can relate to a wide audience. Those seeking a realistic and grounded work of military fiction will feel right at home, while those looking for a romantically oriented story will also be satisfied by Jack Winnick's efforts. No punches are held in delivering a poignant and grounded story that will impress both readers of romance and people who are interested in technological devices such as stealth drones. The highlight of the story were the villains, who were shown as ideologically driven, yet ruthlessly terrifying in an all too realistic way. It was a riveting read that kept me wanting for more and also educated me a little bit about the dark underbelly of the intel world.
I give it a 4 out of 4 rating, for its high quality prose and well composed action sequences.
