Arsenic and Old Men: A Mitch and Al Mystery is a murder mystery book written by Glenn Ickler. The story revolves around good friends Warren 'Mitch' Mitchel, an investigative reporter and Alan 'Al' Jeffrey, the papers best photographer. Both Mitch and Al work for the paper St. Paul Daily Dispatch in Minnesota. One day their good friend and former editorial cartoonist, who once worked for St. Paul Daily Dispatch, Dave Jerome invited both Mitch and Al along with their wives Martha Todd and Carol Jeffrey, to come along with him and his wife Cindy Jerome to Massachusetts. Dave’s purpose for coming to Martha’s Vineyard was not only for them to relax at such a luxurious place but also because he was called down there to retrieve his Uncle Walter’s body. Walter Jerome who was once the popular editor at St. Paul Daily Dispatch has died due to hearth attack, which was the reason Richard 'Dick' Rylander called Walter’s only relative Dave Jerome to Massachusetts.

They thought they were just there to enjoy, have a nice day at the beach, eating at their favorite restaurant Linda Jean’s and finally living the life of luxury from Dave’s new acquired eight-hundred-gran cottage. But a plot twist happens on their sweet vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, as they were told Walter Jerome’s death was not caused by a heart attack but was poisoned. Will they ever solve who was behind Walter Jerome’s death?

After reading the book, I seriously loved the whole plot of the book. As it made me curious and made me want to solve the Walter Jerome murder mystery along with the Three Musketeers or The Three Stooges as one of the characters describes the trio. The whole book was easy to follow and enjoyable to read as the author included puns and his own sense of humor as it gave the book more life. There wasn’t anything that I disliked about the book but I would have loved to find out what happened to the character of Dick. I felt like he was cut out from the story wherein I felt like he could have played a bigger part in it. But other than that, the author made me more curious and interested of his other creations, which I look forward to reading.

The book did have vulgar words in it but it was just your average verbal swearing and wasn’t in the level of being profane and abusive. The story did also have sexual descriptions but not too erotic for me to give it a score of 10. The suitable readers for the book would be young adults ages 18 and above who loves the idea of mystery solving and crime involve because it might and will rattle their minds of rising questions and possibilities.

I highly enjoyed reading the book and I would gladly give it a perfect rating of 4 out of 4. I gave book a 4 because not only this was my first time reading a book about murder mystery, but because it was something that made me want to read more and look forward to the next chapters ahead. I’m glad I picked this book for my review because I really enjoyed every page of it.
