[Following is a volunteer review of "Chubby Wubbles" by M. J. Abrams.]
Chubby Wubbles by M. J. Abrams is a book about a cute, chunky ferret and his journey to find his best friend, Coco. Coco and Chubby were two ferrets who used to live together, but one day, she disappeared. That’s when Chubby went to live with his new owner, a boy named Jeffrey. Chubby and Jeffrey become instant companions, but the little ferret can’t stop thinking about Coco. Will he ever reunite with her?
This book was really cute. I especially loved the real pictures of Chubby and Coco that showed their relationship. The photos were high definition photographs that looked especially clear in the digital format of the book. The illustrations were also a nice highlight. They were semi-realistic and colorful and helped to drive the narrative along. The drawings definitely captured the characters’ personalities.
I think the writing was adequate for a children’s book. The age range would probably be best suited to kids ten years old and under. It’s not a difficult book to read and would be a fun story for beginner to intermediate readers to practice reading comprehension.
There were a few errors throughout the book. Considering the elementary level of writing, the errors seemed a little careless, but they can easily be corrected. Once the author fixes these problems, the book will look polished and more professional.
Even though there were errors, I liked the book enough to rate it 4 out of 4 stars. The story and overall presentation are worthy of four stars. Children will love the story, and it will probably inspire many kids to ask their parents to let them have a ferret. The book is aimed at children, so unless you have kids, you’ll probably never need to read this book. If you love ferrets, you might enjoy this book even if you’re an adult.
