[Following is a volunteer review of "Chubby Wubbles" by M. J. Abrams.]
Mark has two pet ferrets named Chubby and Coco. Both of them get along very well. One day, Chubby wakes up to find Coco missing without a trace. He tries to find her but with no luck. As Mark is always busy with his work, he asks Jeffrey, his brother, to adopt Chubby. Jeffrey agrees and takes Chubby to his apartment. Chubby is happy with him, but he still misses Coco. One day, he goes out to find her and is surrounded by some geese. Will Chubby get away from the geese safely? Will he ever find Coco?
In his book Chubby Wubbles, M. J. Abrams makes a comparison between a good pet owner and a not-so-good one. A good pet owner plays with his pet and gives him a lot of attention. On the other hand, the not-so-good one is always tied up at work and has no time for his pet. This comparison is the best thing in this book because it can be helpful for young pet owners to realise their responsibilities towards their pets.
The author has included the real pictures of two ferrets, which no doubt give this book a touch of reality. But there is something that can trouble curious little minds. The pictures in Mark's apartment and the pictures in Jeffrey's apartment have the same background, the white carpet, which implies that they are taken in the same place. These pictures should have taken in two different places to make it more real for children. Otherwise, there is nothing unpleasant in this book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for the flawless editing and the good portrayal of the feelings of a pet. The problem with the pictures has no effect on my rating because it does not make this book any less interesting.
I would recommend this book to kids around 5 to 10 years old, especially to kids who have pet ferrets or pets in general as this book can help them to realise the true feelings of their pets.
