Review by acremer -- One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams
Love conquers all. Or does it?
When Calder Benedict met Adam Stone her life was thrown in a whirlwind. Previously dating Milo Prendergast, Calder didn’t know what to think of a gentleman. Gentlemen don’t actually exist. Every man is out for her money. Or so she thought.
Calder Benedict, and her three sisters, Bryce, Andi, and Destry, have all sworn off love for one reason or another. Mainly, the lack of interest in love from men towards them and more of an interest in the girls’ money, and their bedrooms. Billie Benedict, the mother of the girls, has the opposite opinion. Every man is worth something. Six divorces later and currently in a relationship with her soon-to-be seventh (probably), Billie shows the girls no hope for relationships.
But Adam is different. Isn’t he?
Through twists and turns that you will never see coming, Calder begins to fall head over heels for the all-too-perfect Adam Stone. Adam, also not big on the love game, only wanting an occasional fling here and there, begins to fall for the lovely Calder as well.
When an old fling of Adam’s shows up to play, will things come crumbling down? Will Billie’s new love, Ingo Hunter, try to break up the romance? Will the inseparable sisters approve of Mr. Stone? Only time, and turning the pages, will tell.
One Way Or Another by Mary J. Williams is a page-turning read. Through unimaginable detail the love story of Calder and Adam is told beautifully. Woven into the story is the close-knit relationship between Calder and her sisters, and the love they share is easily distinguished.
The thing that I liked most about the book was the storyline in general. A rich girl. A poor boy. It is the perfect set up for a classic love story. However, the book has plenty of twists and turns that continue to keep you guessing and on your toes. The thing that I disliked most about the book was that sometimes there was dialogue that began after a series of thought or detail and it was sometimes hard to determine who was talking. On a few occasions I caught myself having to go back and re-read a section of the book to be able to tell who exactly was saying what.
I would gladly rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a good romance novel that kept me interested throughout. The book was a very easy read and I was able to finish it within just a few days. I didn’t give this book a lower rating because I felt that the storyline was exceptional, and the writing was very fluid and not boring at all.
I would like to mention that this book is geared towards a specific audience. I would not recommend this book for any youth readers. The romance in the book is beautiful but there are several instances of sexual attraction that would not be suitable for young readers. There are also several usages of bad language, which didn’t bother me, but could bother some readers. The book had an almost pornographic tone about it, so readers beware.
The book did seem to have been professionally edited. A few minor errors were found, such as forgetting to put a period at the end of a sentence or missing a comma. Other than the few errors noted, there were no obvious glaring errors present in the book.
Overall, I felt that this book was a very good read and I look forward to reading the other three books in the series.
