Midwinter Turns to Spring by Maria Veloso is a must-read novel that is unique in the way that it is written. It covers multiple generations as well as past and present times. The main part of the story takes place in San Francisco and Mendocino. There is a lot of discussion about art and music. The music is an exotic type called Flamenco which originates from the culture of Southern Spain. The main characters in the story have a deep undeniable love and connection for each other as well as for each other's passions for art and music. The novel contains two main characters and six supporting characters and the close relationships between them. Some of the characters in the story have been through some tough situations in their lives and have some mental scars as a result. They all work through their pain the only way they know how until love comes and helps to heal them. The characters also have family and friends to support them along the way.

Most people know how, oftentimes, life seems to get in the way of our dreams and passions. This happens to the characters in this novel as well. The novel contains many spiritual insights that make the reader stop and contemplate their meanings. This aspect is a unique characteristic not often found in romance novels but fits into this story extremely well. There are many twists and turns as well as unexpected events in this book that are not easily predictable but still flow together very naturally. This is an unexpected but refreshing way to write a novel. I feel that the author took quite a bit of risk when writing this novel because I do not feel that all of the readers will like the spiritual and deep self-exploration of the characters.

There is absolutely no vulgar language or profanity in this novel. There are some erotic scenes in this book but they are described using uncommon descriptions and not very graphic so I would rate these scenes a 1 on a 0 - 5 scale. This book was exceptionally well-edited. I only found two errors in this whole book. The first one was that the shoulder that was causing pain for the Aunt was switched from the right to the left once. The other error was that the wrong character's name was used in the dialog.

Almost anyone who likes to read great romance novels will love reading Midwinter Turns to Spring by Maria Veloso but there are some descriptions of abusive and abandonment situations that may be difficult for those readers that have been through similar situations in their lives but it may help them in some ways as well. The spiritual insights are quite eye-opening. Some of the discussions that the characters have are very enlightening as well. Other than that this is a must-read for romance novel lovers.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4. This is by far one of the best romance novels that I have ever read. The things that I liked the best were the unexpected twists and turns as well as the spiritual insights that made this a book that I didn't want to put down. I also found myself looking at the page numbers periodically about halfway through the book hoping that the story wasn't ending soon because I didn't want it to ever end. The thing I liked the least was the fairly slow start at the beginning of the story. It made me wonder if I would like the book but that changed quickly enough.

I found myself drawn into the story so completely that during parts of it I almost felt like I was there in person and experiencing some of the events right along with the characters. I felt so many emotions while I was reading. I felt sadness, heartbreak, joy, longing, awe, fear, anger, pride and love right along with the characters. I consider this one of the best books I've ever read. It is very well written. I hope to have the pleasure of reading more novels from this talented author.
