This is a review for the book The Hand Bringer written by Christopher J. Penington. The book is the story of a police officer, deeply depressed over the loss of his son, who is unwittingly thrust into an unbelievable scenario. Just as amazing is the fact that this is his destiny. He has experienced life events that come into play all throughout the story. This is his predestined story.

Peter Hadrian was living his life as a police officer while having no personal life to speak of. Years earlier, his soon-to-be ex-wife and son were assaulted in a park on Halloween. His wife was killed and his son disappeared leaving behind his torn costume. Traces of blood on the costume were all that remained of his child. This grief and remorse are slowly tearing him apart all the while making him less cautious in his job. During a call, he comes into contact with a creature that assaults him and leaves him near death. He is rescued by a shadow agency of the United States government who also bring along his friend, and fellow officer, Luke.

Without giving any specifics, they are integrated into a secret mission that promises to save the future of the world. What follows is a grand adventure that gives the reader great detail and a view of an alternate history. The story is well written and keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next. I would not recommend this to young children as some scenes are quite graphic and bloody. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys an epic quest, a vampire experience or an all around exciting read.

I enjoyed how the author took this story to new heights by taking small details in Peter's previous life and incorporating them seamlessly. It really added to the suspense of the story and my enjoyment. If you are not a vampire fan, I would suggest that you give this book a try. There are no dreamy teen-age vamps in this one but you do get the big guy, Vlad Dracula. I would not recommend this for those who prefer not to read a story with significant violence. In this case, I find it intrinsic to the story.

In summary, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It is well written, edited and proofread. I saw no glaring vocabulary or punctuation errors. This is a really good read!
