[Following is a volunteer review of "Sugar & Spice" by H M Irwing.]
Sugar & Spice by H. M. Irwing is a fairy tale romance story that features a love story of two young adults from completely different cultures and societies; a prince and a maiden.
Catherine Little is a headstrong young lady that sees the world for what it is. She grows up disbelieving in fairy tales, "silly," she reffered to them but this notion is thrown out the window when a one night stand with a captivating stranger proved her otherwise. A damsel, she is not but her prince is bent on rescuing her from her own reservations. Sadiq, an Arabian playboy prince is out looking for an escape from his politically exhausting life but instead finds himself, unexpectedly, in the arms of a beauty who gave nine him more than the escape he sought. She gave him a new obsession, love. Though love is not boundable, will these two lovebirds from different worlds survive? Will the political threats make or break their bond?
H. M. Irwing drives us between the world of a normal American family and that of royalties. We get to realize that it is not all beds of roses in both the normal and royal houses. The author leads us right in the middle of a chaotic political world full of power struggles, deceit, malice and disappointments. Catherine Little is suddenly thrown right at the centre of it and even though she is left out of balance and is reluctant in the beginning, we see her stand up for herself amidst all her fears and intimidations. Sadiq is no pushover either, with his power and connections as well as his estranged beautiful wife, he is able to find a way to protect his family and secure their happiness.
H. M. Irwin has made yet another page turner. I love how headstdong and willful Catherine Little is portrayed. Clever and brave, just the perfect match for the playboy prince. Sadiq on the other hand is just one of those egotistical Arabian rich playboys that love to have everything their own way. His stubbornness hooked meto the book because i couldnt wait to see how he will be tamed. I was not disappointed. The author depicts the harsh reality of the political world, a world away from the public eyes, Sadiq's world. Here we get to join him in his journey to a normal family life.
I fell in love with both Sadiq and Catherine, two headstrong souls that found balance between their love, insecurities and family to make one of their own. Even though I love the story, I desliked how the story ended as it seemed summarized.
Sugar & Spice deserves the top score for the way the characters were developed and executed. The story is captivating to the extend that made me believe in fairy tales again. I can't wait to read Emily's story. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
