An after hours concert sponsored by a Beverly Hills shopping mall soon turns from a festive event into a nightmare. Ten men dressed in black have stationed themselves on each floor. They first employ gas grenades to cause panic and then proceed to gun down innocent victims as they try to escape. Many young people die and many others are injured. It quickly becomes evident that this is an act of terror.

Lara Edmonds and her new husband, Uri Levin are enjoying a tranquil vacation on her parents' farm in Ohio. Lara, a former FBI agent has become an Adjunct Agent with the Mossad along with her husband who has been an agent with the Mossad for many years. Suddenly, their peaceful interlude is shattered as their help is desperately needed in Los Angeles to deal with the massacre. From there they are soon dispatched to New York to deal with another group of terrorists who have taken over a section of the financial district. Two properties have been taken over and Homeland Security has no idea what their ultimate target is. Their main satellite has been disabled. Behind these disasters is Sheik Zainal Abidin from Iran. He has concocted a scheme that will give Iran air supremacy over Israel, all the while causing the United States to look foolish. Lara and Uri have a plan to ruin the Iranian's hope.

I have become quite a fan of Lara and Uri. Even when it seems that there is no way of escape from the deadly situations in which they find themselves, they use their combined talents to triumph. As they make preparations to imbed themselves on the Date Farm, I become nervous about all the things that could go wrong. A betrayal by someone that they not only trusted, but counted on to be their way out if they are discovered, turns what they hope to be a rescue into something quite different.

The descriptions given to the Sheik enabled me to form a picture in my head of someone who is utterly corrupt with no redeeming qualities. The fact that he both rallies his followers and also intimidates them makes him a character to be reckoned with. His one Achilles' Heel appears to be the newly elected President of Iran, Mahmoud Fajazi. The Sheik desperately wants to please the president and also receive similar trappings of the wealth the president possesses.

My heart is in my stomach often because of the twists and turns in this story. Just when I think all is going well along comes another roller coaster drop that makes me queasy. I thoroughly enjoyed The Date Farm and would recommend it to anyone who likes to be entertained by a quick-moving, thrilling story with unexpected happenings along the way. The book is also sobering in that I can imagine that this is something which could actually happen in our world today. Jack Winnick has crafted a master tale. There are only a few typos and no profanity.

I rate this book 4 stars out of 4.
