One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams is the first book in a series about four sisters, all with different fathers and one mother, finding love despite the scars life and their parents left on them.
Calder Benedict was born with the proverbial silver spoon, but she never let that get to her head. All through her life, she remained level-headed and down-to-earth. Adam Stone was born into poverty and was raised by a struggling, single mother. Life was hard for Adam growing up, but he used that to turn himself into a decent man. He built himself up in the Navy and built up his unique career as a facilitator using the connections he fostered throughout his life. When the two meet, there's an instant attraction. Although they start off on the wrong foot, they soon grow close and fall in love.
Adam and Calder made for spectacular main characters. They were a bit unbelievable in that they seemed to be too good to be true, though. They didn’t really seem to have very many faults, and if they did, they were minor. I’d have liked to see them both have some more depth in that sense. On the other side, the way they experienced each other and their emotions were very real and made them very human.
What I liked most about the book was the relationship between the four sisters. Having a sister myself, I can truly appreciate the depth of the bond Mary J. Williams created between them. They were there for each other when no one else was. They are each other’s everything and seeing the interactions between them was heart-warming.
There’s nothing I particularly disliked about this book. There were a few mistakes but the book was obviously professionally edited.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story. There’s a lot of depth here and the love goes deeper than just romance. There’s familial and platonic love here as well as romance. It’s a great book for anyone looking for an easy read too. I would not recommend this book to kids under the age of 18 as there are swearing and erotic scenes. There are mentions and moments of violence but nothing too graphic.
I rate One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams 4 out of 4 stars. While it is not the most exciting and unique book out there, it is fun to read and a great story to get into. It’s a trusted and true romance novel with all the ups and downs that come with the genre. One Way or Another is one of those books that you just can’t put down. It’s both easy to read and entertaining, a great combination for a book. It left me wanting more in the worst way. I completely lost myself in the story for hours on end. It’s a sign of an author’s quality when you can say this about a book.
