One Way or Another is the first book of the Sisters Quartet Series authored by Mary J Williams. A wonderful book on sisterhood, friendship and familial relations, Mary J Williams introduce us to four sisters- Andi, Calder, Bryce, Destry and the remarkable and heart-warming bond they share.

Born to Billie Benedict and four different fathers, the Benedict sisters had a strained parentage and weren’t as fortunate when it came to relationships as they were in monetary matters. The book focuses mainly on the second Benedict sister-Calder, who is a strong-willed and career-oriented woman and the romance that unfolds between her and Adam- a simple young man who had to work his way through life to reach where he is.

Mary J Williams has kept the narrative short and sweet with a zest of darker aspects of the current world. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and the flow with which it kept me turning pages through the night. I also loved the bountiful use of witty metaphors and sarcasm throughout the book. The character portrayals were done with depth and clarity, it was easy to connect with each character individually and I looked forward to learning about each of them in more detail. A small downside I felt was that since the book is more focused on Calder, I found it difficult to understand when remarks such as “Typical Destry” were used. It would have been nice to read more in detail about each sister's experiences in life and then to relate them to the circumstances in the book.

The narration was so beautiful that I could understand and respect the choices made and the words spoken by the characters. I loved the bond between the sisters, the comfort level between Adam and his friend and also the attachment of Adam with his mother. I believe that it takes an immense amount of talent and patience to portray such delicate topics in a way that it touches the reader’s mind and commend the author for the same.

I rate One Way or Another 4 out of 4 stars as I enjoyed the read and found the book to be well-edited and proofread. I recommend the book to all adults and young adults who enjoy the romance genre but would throw a word of caution as there are passionate scene narrations and occasional use of strong language.
