Review by Daydreamer2 -- 2612 Cherryhill Lane by Glenn Vo
Oftentimes we take our lives for granted, especially as young adults while still learning how to get through adulthood. Many of us do not remind ourselves enough that our entire world can change in a split second. 2612 Cherryhill Lane by Glenn Vo is a heart wrenching story about a young adult whose life spiraled in a quick few minutes.
Jonathan McAlister, a high school senior at Katy High in Texas, once had it all. He was the star quarterback, had all the popularity, a beautiful girlfriend, raised by a wealthy family, and was named Katy High’s MVP after winning the state championship for his school’s football team. He was on cloud nine after that game. Anxious to get to his celebratory dinner with his family and friends, he didn’t pay attention to the mistakes he was making while driving there.
Gabby McAlister, Jonathan’s ten year old little sister, adored her big brother. She was his biggest fan at every football game. He couldn’t say no when she wanted to ride with him to dinner. She loved talking football with him, and was so excited about his big win that she couldn’t sit still. Bouncing up and down in the passenger seat with excitement, she didn’t think to put on her seatbelt. Jonathan was preoccupied with a seductive picture his girlfriend had just texted him. To avoid hitting a semi head on, he swerved hard to miss it. Unfortunately, something bigger was ahead of him. In a split second, his life changed forever.
After swerving to miss the semi, he hit a tree head on. Gabby did not have her seatbelt on and was ejected from the car. Two months later, Jonathan woke up from a coma to find his legs had been amputated. In that split second, he lost his football career, his scholarship to his dream college, his girlfriend, and his biggest fan, Gabby McAlister.
I give 2612 Cherryhill Lane 4 out of 4 stars. Glenn Vo did an impeccable job writing this story. I found no grammar or spelling errors. There were also no erotic scenes.
I couldn’t put this book down. The first half I often had tears in my eyes while reading. As I got closer to the end, those tears turned into tears of joy instead. This is a wonderful story for young adult readers. It gives a real perspective on how quickly little mistakes can be life changing. Though a big part of it is sad, it’s also a great love story with a happy ending.
