The Most Unlikely Champion describes the life, accomplishments and struggles of Vera Koo. The book is a memoir by Vera Koo with Justin Pahl. The memoir is written from the perspective of Vera Koo and begins with an event that adds trouble to her life as she is preparing to compete for the Bianchi Cup in 2013. The memoir goes back and forth between recovering in the present time and reflecting on how her life has come to be what it is.

The parts of the book that I liked most include the fact that Vera Koo is incredibly relatable in all aspects of her life from her accomplishments to her problems. She includes wise pieces of advice that any person would do well to listen to. In addition, she adds in religious aspects of how she connects with God and builds her relationship with faith.

The only part that I liked least would be that some aspects were repeated a little too often throughout the story. However, that may be just personal opinion and may not bother other people to read details multiple times in a story.

Overall I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I believe this book deserves such a rating for multiple reasons. The first reason is that you can see the relationship built between the writer and Vera Koo, which makes me feel confident that the writer did Mrs. Koo’s story justice. In relation to the writing of the book, they did an exceptional job editing as I found no errors. The second reason is that Vera Koo explains every part of her story in such a way that you feel as though you are part of it. You can see exactly why she made such decisions and feel every emotion as if you were there with her. Finally, the third reason is that I believe this book is a motivational one that should be given to any person who has ever had to struggle with something and needed to power through it.

This book is written for any audience that needs encouragement. If you have ever felt that you did not belong, then this book is for you. If you feel down on your luck, then this book will lift you right up but not through luck, through your own skills and talent. Vera Koo’s story will appeal to women who need to feel as though they can accomplish anything they set their mind to. Overall, this book inspires us to go for goals that may seem out of reach, but in the end through perseverance and strength we can accomplish.

This book sounds very inspiring. What event took place to add trouble to her life. What happened before the competition? What is Vera recovering from? I would love to read more. Thanks for the great review.
