Review by vvasquez1227 -- One Way or Another
One Way or Another, by Mary J Williams, is about 4 wealthy sisters and their struggle for normalcy and relationships given their unusual family life. Their mother did not lead a common or healthy love life as 6 failed marriages resulted in 4 children, all girls and all having different fathers equally emotionally challenged.Despite their unusual upbringing the girls grow to be strong independent women, all with successful careers and a bond no one could break.
The story focuses on Calder and her serendipitous run in with a mysterious and handsome stranger who she just can't get out of her head. The girls are on constant guard and aren't so easily trusting. Their family’s wealth has always proved to be the focus of many men and hindered a lot of relationships. But they always had each other and they were very protective of each other. Calder and Adams' blooming relationship has Calder experiencing something she has never felt, yet she struggles with whether or not she could trust Adam. Has she found one of the good ones or is her past of untrustworthy men continuing? With some twists and turns this story proves that love always prevails and restores some hope in the Benedict sisters.
I give this book a 4 out of 4 rating. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt it was well written and the story line kept me fully immersed, I didn't want it to end! I found the book to be relatable and could empathize with the characters. The challenges the characters faced were common and not too far beyond the imagination. I enjoyed the 4 sisters and their relationship. I really liked the closeness and the love they all shared for each other as well as their individual strength and personalities. They were all individually a force to be reckoned with, but all together they were indestructible.
The growing relationship between Calder and Adam was very pure and genuine. Her hesitation and his somewhat mysterious life made it hard to predict the story line but I still found myself hoping that everything would work out in the end. Of course no love story is complete without a few bumps in the road which made things even more interesting but nonetheless the special connection and their love overcomes their challenges.
I feel like this book would be enjoyed by the hopeless romantics of the world. Given some of the language and suggestiveness of some parts, I feel like readers aging 18 and up would enjoy and get lost in this book. One Way or Another is a modern love story that has been tastefully brought to life. I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy!
