Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi, definitely is the kind of book that I loved to read when I was a child. The book consists of consecutive entries of Inca's diary, where she tells us her adventures finding a stolen sword during her vacations on Sri Lanka.

Inca is a brave kitten that loves solving mysteries with her friends and family as the head of her Detective Agency. Her team is formed by her little brother Fromage, her sister Cara, an elegant cat named Monk, her hamster Charlotte, and two lovely dogs named Terrance and Polo.

The story begins when they find out someone stole a treasure from the museum, and with the help of their new friends (a turtle, a baby elephant, and his mother), they gather information to find the culprit and return the goods to their rightful owner.

What I liked the most about the book were the pictures. They are cute and colorful enough to catch a child's attention. Another thing that made me smile was how Terrance had a different language than the rest of the animals, barking instead of speaking, and everything he said needed translation.

The story is amusing and entertaining, even for me as an adult. The book seems professionally edited, and I only found a few errors. Nothing distracting enough to make me take a star from the rate, so I'm gladly going to rate it four out of four stars.

I believe this book is perfect for kids between 6 and 9 years old that already know how to read, but still enjoy colorful illustrations. I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids, because I don't think their attention spawn would last long enough to finish it. Or at least not in one seat. Older kids on the other hand probably would prefer another kind of story. It is also worth mentioning that the book is profanity-free, and the most violent scene is a description of how a man fell while riding an elephant, so there's nothing to worry about content-wise.

I loved animal stories like these when I was a kid too! I’m hoping to get my son hooked on reading with books like these when he gets older. He’d probably like Terrance because he loves dogs...then again, he’d probably think Inca was a dog too lol. Thanks for the great review!

Well it has a very simple plot, so I think children would find it very easy to understand. The only downside I found for small kids is the length. I really hope your son enjoys reading as much as you do, when the time comes.

According to your review, I also agree that children will definitely enjoy this book. Additionally, since this book is professionally edited and profanity free, it is very much siutable for children.

I've read two books in this series, including this one, and I enjoyed them quite a bit, despite the fact that I'm obviously not the target audience. Children should definitely have a blast with the book. Thanks for the review!

I still enjoy reading a nice simple story from time to time. This is a bonus since it centers around a group of animals. Thanks so much for your thoughts on this one! It sounds like a must read.

I enjoyed this book also when I reviewed it. However, I do think the author could have brought some more exciting tension into the plot.

Yeah probably, but given that it is a children's book I didn't really expect it to have a lot of conflict so I didn't really have an issue with that.

The idea of a cat detective is really cute. It does seem like a perfect fit for the age range you mentioned. Thanks for this review!
