[Following is a volunteer review of "One Way or Another" by Mary J. Williams.]
I do not always boast about being a huge romance fan, since I enjoy novels more in the genres of mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and young adult. However, this novel that I have most recently read has kept me up at night of wanting to read what happens next, and I am excited to continue the series. I am writing about One Way or Another by Mary J. Williams.
The story begins with a little backstory of how the four Benedict sisters came to be from their mother Billie, who has been married six times! Each sister has a different father that comes with their own issues, and with Billie not being the best mother in the world, the sister have pretty much raised each other. Their names are: Andi, Calder, Bryce and Destry. Each one has their own distinct personality and career choice, but they get along famously, compliment each other very well, and are always there for each other whenever one of them needs the others. This novel is the first one in the series and focuses on Calder, the second oldest of the bunch.
She works by running a charity for underprivileged individuals in New York City, and meets her lover Adam Stone when he is in charge of renovations of their mansion. She almost automatically falls in love with him, trusting a man in her life for the first time. They are both individuals that have not had any serious relationships in their lives, and are both willing to start now for each other. They also each come with their own baggage, but both are willing to overlook these issues in order to make way for the future, as long as they are together.
Overall, the book was very well-written and had a plot flow that was very easy to follow and become absorbed in. The characters are very easy to relate to, and Williams’ descriptions of the characters and emotions are very colorful, to where you can clearly see the novel playing out in front of you. I did not find many mistakes within the novels in terms of writing or understanding either the characters or the plot. I only found a few instances where there was either a period missing, or quotation marks were placed twice.
I rate One Way or Another as 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this novel for not only romance fans, but even readers that enjoy a good read of a novel with a very good flow. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel, and I am very excited to read the rest of the series and explore the romances of the other three Benedict sisters. Thankfully, they are all already published and I do not have to wait longer to know what happen next. I am only sad that I will not be able to share my review with everyone on this website, since they are not listed as options to review.
