Homecoming by Jude Austin is the sequel to her book Project Tau. It picks up where that one left off and shows the struggles that Kata and Tau face after their escape from GenTech. Projects are human clones and are treated as little more than livestock. Everywhere they go someone is always trying to use their abilities for their own gain, and Kata is desperately trying to just make it home with his best friend. Just when Kata is beginning to think that they're finally safe, he is betrayed by the one person he thought he could trust. Tau is kidnapped and on his way back to GenTech. Kata is given an option: find someone who disappeared on a lawless planet and bring them back before Tau reaches GenTech or abandon his best friend and go home alone.

There are not enough good things that can be said about this book, and I cannot choose one thing that I like the most. The author is a talented storyteller, and you feel yourself hanging on every word that you read. The emotions that Kata and Tau feel become your own, and I found myself in tears on several occasions. The book addresses many topics such as mental health, abuse, and eating disorders. While this is a sci-fi novel, the settings are not so foreign that you feel at a loss. The circumstances are realistic which adds that much more depth to the characters, their emotions, and the overall story. The dialogue is witty and humorous at times and painfully emotional at others. This story shines in its character development, and you find yourself very attached to both Kata and Tau. As you watch Kata struggle with his trauma and mental health issues, you also get to see Tau's childlike wonder as he begins to experience the world outside the lab for the first time.

It's very difficult for me to think of even one thing that I disliked about this book. I've been a fan of the story since reading Project Tau and was so excited to finally read the sequel. This book has enough information in it to where it can be read and understood without prior knowledge of its prequel. However, I would highly recommend you read both books to enrich your experience of the story that much more. I suppose one thing that could be considered negative is the amount of cursing in the book, but this was not something that bothered me so I would simply advise you to read it at your own discretion.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book was just about as perfect as a story can get. The emotional attachment to the characters that you experience is a rarity. The plot is phenomenal and the character development is impeccable. There is not a single negative thing that I can say about this book. It was well-written, engaging, and unforgettable.

This book is not suitable for young children. It has a lot of very colorful language sprinkled about, and there are times when it can be quite graphic as well. The story addresses some very serious topics as I mentioned before so I believe that it's more suitable for young adults. If you're a fan of sci-fi novels, then you definitely don't want to miss out on this gem. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories with phenomenal plots, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters.
