[Following is a volunteer review of "Strong Heart" by Charlie Sheldon.]
The book Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a novel that uses large amounts of imagery to help the reader imagine the author's world. There is a broad range of diction due to the vocabulary of different characters. For example, one character uses simple sentences that could be understood by young children while another uses complex language to explain certain concepts in detail. This could be difficult for some readers and therefore readers should understand that they may not comprehend some of the text if they are beginner readers. This book also contains a certain religion(s) which may not be suitable for some people who are very religious or refuse to believe in religion.
The book starts off as a story of a man named Tom who discovers he has a granddaughter. This was a shocking discovery for Tom and he doesn't know what to do. So he ends up taking his granddaughter with him on a camping trip. His friend and that friend's daughter also come along with them on the trip. In the end, Tom doesn't know if he is leading his granddaughter on an adventure or if she is leading him.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of all the unique traits in the novel. The novel has characters that have strong, different personalities that make them seem more realistic. It also includes a unique outdoor setting which makes it more interesting than a regular book. I especially liked the granddaughter named Sarah in the book. She is a funny character who grows as a character throughout the plot.
What I liked most about this book is the way the author combines the past and present throughout the plot. It is a unique method to tell the story and it gives the book more of an adventurous flair to it. This made it hard for me to put down the book and I constantly wanted to know what happened next. The author describes the past in the novel using a facile method which is easy to understand and made the book easier to read. This also set this book apart from others.
This book is great for a large audience who are not strongly religious and are willing to read books that have difficult language in some parts. It has a variety of themes that interests many people. It has history, nature, family, friendship, adventure, spirits, mystery, and more. It doesn't have profanity which makes it great for people who can't read books with that content. It also doesn't have any sexual scenes either.
