Review by bigirimanacelestin -- The Date Farm
Is it a violently passionate story of hate? Or should we call a virulent writing? The fiction novel, The Date Farm by Jack Winnick is, in my opinion, a unique and gripping crimes story. Written as the fourth in Lara and Uri series, it is a detective, shooting and bombing story focusing on the main characters Lara and Uri. Winnick is not only an experienced chemical engineering professor but also a good writer. He wrote a Lara and Uri series, and The Date Farm is the fourth in that series. Even though, I have never had a chance to read the first three books, considering how this is written, I can figure out how others are. And again, he himself, Jack Winnick decreed that the story is related to the historical event.
The events unfold in Ohio when defense authorities call Lara and Uri to investigate about the attack. Terrorists attack Beverly Hills shopping mall, when this couple; Lara and Uri were in vacation at Lara's family farm in Ohio. They shoot more people in the mall where some were injured, and others lost their lives. Despite attacking this mall, Terrorists also attack Manhattan Bank.
Winnick introduces us on how terrorism is done. Terrorists in their work are ruled by fear and cruelty. They shoot and bomb without even thinking about it. Likewise, the story also rolls around the breaching of defense communication network. In fact this is the main reason why the story is so brilliant. The reader will be horrified by shooting and bombing scenes, but Jack ensures that we will never be horrified because he alternates criminal scenes with investigation scenes.
The writer excels at plotting the scene and developing characters. Physical description and locations are clearly detailed. He gives us geographical location to make the reader be familiar with the area. The story moves in a way that impels the reader to enjoy the book till the end. Criminal scene to investigation scene in the way that is impressive. I was impressed by how the book is well written. Even though, The Date Farm is the fourth in the series, the book stands on its own. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars, though, it contains some errors.
I would highly recommend this rewarding book to action, crime and detective story fans, and to those with past traumatic disorder resulted from shooting and bombing, I strongly advise against reading the book.
