Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants

Caleb Boyer, the author of the Island Games has a lot of imagination. Readers must get buckled up for a lot of adventure, mystery and humour. It will peak your curiosity and have you longing for more. The author is talented at writing in the descriptive form because it felt like I was exploring the jungle, feeling the characters’ emotions and thankful for avoiding the near-death experiences faced throughout the journey.

The author made his characters, Ryan and Matthew come to life as he described their friendship. They argued, made up quickly and rarely took things personal. Matthew and Ryan would not have passed any of the four (4) quadrants if they did not rely on each other.

The chapters were short and separated by different events that Ryan and Matthew encountered. The author shared helpful words of advice on how to face life. For example, “A warrior acts in spite of fear and is willing to do whatever it takes, even if it’s hard. A warrior is bigger than any obstacle and never gives up.”

What I liked most about this book is that it had me on the edge of my seat. This is so because of all the action like when Ryan was almost eaten by a shark. The events in the future were unknown, and it had me longing to keep reading so we could find out how the boys got on the island, who put them there and why. What I liked least was how the journey ended and I will say just that so as to not spoil the ending.

The title signals that the book is about mystery and that it was. There were no erotic scenes or profane language expressed in this book. It was well edited with one (1) noticeable error. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because of the moral of the story which is that we do not know what the future holds but we must face our challenges and rely on ourselves as well as the support of others. This was not rated 2 because of the wide sequence of adventures and little to no grammatical errors. Despite the ending that I disliked, I understand the moral of the book. This book is not for persons who do not like reading about mystery and adventures.
