Review by daphne_asir -- Child of the Sun Complete Edition
The book Child of the Sun Complete Edition by Michael Van Cleve is a compilation of seven comic book issues. The book tells the story of Samson’s strength, his trials, victories and heartbreaks. The story revolves around Samson and the woman he loves, Adriana, a priestess in the temple of Astarte. The story is set in a mythical world with gods, goddesses, monsters, witches and Nephilim. The book is very loosely based on the biblical story of Samson; the author takes the character and masterfully spins a brand-new tale. The book offers a glimpse into the mind of man and the trials and tribulations of love.
I loved how the various mythological figures like Hercules and Theseus were seamlessly integrated into the story. The world-building was done extremely well, helping the story to flow naturally. The story itself was masterfully crafted with stunning artwork and dialogue resulting in a cinematic experience. The narrative was almost poetic at times. Even the minor characters were extensively developed offering the reader an insight into their motivations and feelings.
The only thing I disliked about the book was the artwork, it was different in every issue. This made it hard to comprehend the story. However, the author does provide character identifications at the start of every new issue. Apart from that, colour codes were used for the textboxes which made reading easier.
That being said, there are several instances of full-frontal nudity and depictions of sex though there is no use of profanity. The author also does not shy away from gore. The book includes instances of child sacrifices and rape, though they are in no way glorified. So, as mentioned in the cover, the book is suggested for mature readers and not for the faint-hearted.
Overall, I would rate the book, Child of the Sun, 4 out of 4 stars for the quality of the story and the dialogues. The book is exceptionally well-edited with no errors. This book will appeal to all comic book fans, especially readers interested in mythology and legends. The book doesn’t focus much on any religion, and it is very loosely based on Christianity, so non-Christians can enjoy the book as well. For readers who know the original story of Samson, some aspects might be predictable. But new characters and settings offer a different and unique perspective and the various plot twists more than make up for the book’s shortcomings.

Glad you found the review helpful. Thanks for the comment.
