People these days are in a way fascinated by winners. However, the question arises as to who the winners are, and why certain individuals are almost perfect in the eyes of others. Winners and Losers in words and cartoons is a graphic novel by Arthur Hartz in which the author in a very interesting and thought provoking way gives answers to these questions.

This graphic novel is a relatively short read, and is divided into nine chapters. Each chapter carries a specific question that relates to winners or losers, their role in society, or the ways in which they are accepted by society. The author uses very interesting and funny illustrations to convey the desired message to the reader. He also uses various aphorisms and quotes, and leads the reader to think about things that were not so obvious before. The book presents situations at different historical moments, including people from different parts of the world, and different social classes. These situations are presented in a somewhat ridiculous way to portray the truth behind them. In this way, the author wants to encourage people to ask themselves what they value in life and why, what is important to them and why, and why they label certain people in a certain way.

I really liked this book. The author conveyed several important messages to the reader in a very interesting and unusual way. Not all the people we consider losers are losers, nor are all the people we see as winners really winners. We are blinded by the wrong labels imposed by society. What I particularly liked was how the author included different situations from a man’s life. Early life situations and events from childhood are shown, but also parenting itself. We may sometimes not even be aware of how some sentences uttered by our parents can affect our adult lives. Also, I like that the book is relatively short, and yet it carries great importance. The author managed to convey a lot in a few words and illustrations. This book could be constantly read as a kind of reminder of what really matters. I could say that for me this book was like a kind of therapy.

There is nothing I did not like about this book. I think the book is well composed considering both the textual and the illustrative component. The book is entertaining and funny, but at the same time it points to the seriousness of certain topics. It also shows how a certain perception of seemingly unimportant things affects the human psyche and mental health from an early age.

All in all, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not encounter any grammatical errors. There is also no erotic content in the book, nor profane language. I enjoyed reading it from start to finish. The book is very intriguing and I think I will read it again in the near future. I would recommend this book to everyone, especially those interested in thought provoking topics.
