Dying Well: Our Journey of Love and Loss is a nonfiction book by Susan Ducharme Hoben. The book was written in contrast to a memoir. The book depicts the life experiences of the author and her beloved husband, Bruce. The author started by recounting her experience when she was diagnosed with cancer and how she had a tumour in her heart, she further mentioned how Bruce, was all supportive, during the time of her surgery and how he would often kiss her bald head and comfort her often. Later on, Bruce was diagnosed with oesophagal cancer.

Then there was a twist, Susan knew it was time to return the favour when she discovered that her husband had got cancer. Upon hearing about Bruce's illness she found ways to get herself together and be of good courage to help her husband through his challenging health issues.

It further detailed how the circumstance led Bruce, to inform their loving family and loved ones about his cancer, in return they were very much devasted by the news, but they were also supportive. Bruce's illness prompted his decision to retire. Dying well and having to live a life of quality comes with a cost. The question what's the cost?

After reading this, I came across an exhibition of emotions, at one point I had a taste of joyous moments, at another, was a pain. It warmed my heart to read of the author's happy memories of she and her husband, Bruce, especially how they'd do things together like having a walk, doing the chores together, having meals and bike rides on Fridays. I also enjoyed how the author and her husband supported each other, during difficult times. It depicted awesome couple goals, that's was my favourite part of the book.

Further, I also enjoyed the author's way of storytelling, right words, perfect sentences it was just so fascinating having to read this book. Looking further on the book content, I encountered series of life lessons to put in consideration for my life, one is that life should be celebrated every day and Living in the present should be a goal to achieve and that one should be grateful for what your body can do today; not what it could do yesterday or what it will be able to do tomorrow.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as there was nothing I disliked from the book. The book was professionally edited, I didn't notice any grammatical error during my course of reading. More so, it was well written, clear, readable and understandable. I strongly recommend this book to people who are diagnosed with cancer or any other illness, because reading about people who have conquered certain illnesses, would generally pose a positive mindset to the readers.
