Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is the 8th book of the Inca Cat Detective Series. This children’s book revolves around the detective Siberian Cat, named Inca. Together with her detective team, they solve problems and tasks, aiming to satisfy readers with happy endings. The plot started when their mom, Missy, was selected to be a judge for a French patisserie competition to be held in South Korea. The primary mission was to reconcile a separated family, however, unexpected problems arise as the story unfolds. It includes retrieval of Missy’s stolen cheese bag in the airport and to discover who sabotaged it. More inspiring plots will be revealed as the story develops.

As mentioned above, it is the 8th book of the Inca Cat Detectives series, purposely written to bring entertainment and lessons to children. The book is not difficult to follow; it presented a clear format and wordings. The vocabulary was eloquent, some were complicated but it didn’t destroy the quality of this book. In fact, it supports the kids in practicing and improving their English skills. Despite the advanced vocabulary, the context clues and descriptive words made the interpretation easier. Kristi is accustomed to writing children’s books since she's an author for over four years now and in fact, she won several awards in the USA and UK that were chosen by the school children.

The leading characters, Inca and her team, delivered a smart, and strategically constructed solution. They portray an attitude that is an ideal influence for kids; full of initiative and determination. Although the characters were animals, they have depicted the characteristics of a human being and that’s what causes them to be an interesting personality. The author has demonstrated her expertise and knowledge about animal behaviour. She directs us to her observations, like the animal’s mannerisms and their way of thinking, which reflected their actions and decision-making approaches in the story.

Moreover, the content of the book was vibrant. I like it since it didn’t overdo the colours. The font style suited the theme. Completely, it gives warmth and familiarity which will invite readers to follow further. The admirable illustrations by Jorge Valle offer a coherent picture of what was being described in the book. I believe it was a perfect reference for the children when eager curiosity strikes them. It contains no misspelled words; hence, it is professionally edited.

I’ll rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I haven’t counted a flaw from the book. Also, without reading the previous books, you can still follow the story without getting confused. This book suits all ages. It has no vulgar scenes and words. Hence, this can be read by children without parental guidance. I am suggesting this to parents who wish to give their children a reading time; at night, or as a bonding time during the day. Kristi uncovers a story full of substance; I admire her for including the ways of life and the tradition of North and South Korea. Also, she opens the realism about how the country preserves its culture and serenity.

Good to see a book for the children. Also good to know that they can read it without parental guidance. Also liked the moderate usage of colors as some authors tend to overdo it. Thanks for your honest review.

This is an exciting book about cat detectives. Inca and her company of cat detectives accompanied mom to Korea for a cheese competition. The book was enjoyable.
