To what extent can a person go to retaliate and give someone the taste of their own medicine? Will the investigators be able stop the suspect before he or she could settle the score? Who is this lunatic fiercely after the brutal killing of innocent people? Are they really that innocent? If not, what compelled the killer to pay them back for their deeds?

The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare is an investigative story that will leave you guessing till the end. The readers will find themselves scratching their heads whenever a new twist will pop up. The plot opens with the gruesome murder of a juvenile and further takes us along a sequence of murders that the investigation led by Chief Inspector Sheehan tries to unravel. As the team tries to get to the bottom of the case, they stumble across the mysterious world of Dark Web. Following the leads, the story siphons back and forth on various characters under the umbrella of suspicion.

The author has masterfully weaved the plot and managed to keep the readers hooked until the end as there were so many potential suspects. The complete lists of characters with their designations and personality traits along with another list of acronyms used in the story are provided in the beginning. I would suggest the readers to bookmark the pages as these lists will come in handy till the last page.

This book is a real page-turner for me and I quite managed to complete it in under two days. My interest in the book peaked after the fourth chapter when the real investigative work kicked in. For the readers who don’t know about Dark Web, they might find the world-development in this book a shocking discovery. What I liked about the author’s way of writing is that he has used a vibrant vocabulary that gave several new additions to my wordbook. I enjoyed learning about Rigor Mortis, Algor Mortis, and the importance of preserving impressions as an evidence because they can be easily disturbed and overlooked.

Brian has already showcased his craft in his previous works with Sheehan as the team leader. I can undoubtedly say that this book has upped the level of the Murders series by the author. As few of the things are related to the previous books, I would recommend reading them first to connect with the characters more and have clarity over their backgrounds and past investigations.

I felt the book was professionally edited as I couldn’t find any errors that hampered my reading pace. This book has a lot of explicit and disturbing content surrounding the Dark Web. Even the murder-scenes have displeasing details and one could find the use of profanity to some degree. So, I would only recommend this book to adult readers but with a word of caution as the readers may find the salacious content in the book discomforting.

There was nothing to dislike about this book. I would happily give this stellar piece the deserving 4 out of 4 stars for the author’s attempt at creating imagery and keeping the readers charged with thrill as the plot thickens.
