The Mountain and The Goat by Siamak Taghaddos is a simple, beautifully-illustrated book for children, aimed at teaching them values that are important to them and society.

The book tells the story of a child who runs to the mountain. The child meets a goat who gives them a loaf of bread and water in a jar. He tells the child that the gifts are theirs to use as they please but instructs them to use the presents wisely. The tale proceeds to tell us how the child chooses to use the bread and water and the result of their choice.

Siamak Taghaddos did a perfect job in writing The Mountain and The Goat. He used very basic English, which makes the book an easy read for children. Each page of the book contained a sentence and an illustration, which makes it simple for kids to read. Furthermore, the story is told from the first-person perspective to make readers see themselves in the narrator. Consequently, the author impacts vital qualities in them. Besides, Zachary Cain did well in illustrating the events in the book, thus driving the author’s point home.

Siamak, having been taught to be enterprising by a poem that his father told him, wrote The Mountain and The Goat to input in kids qualities such as hard work, responsibility, perseverance, and resourcefulness. For instance, when the goat gives the narrator the bread and water, he leaves them to decide for themselves how to use what they had to their benefit.

There was nothing to dislike in the book. As mentioned earlier, the language used in the book was easy to understand. Moreover, the author was keen not to use any foul words. Also, the editor did a commendable work at ensuring that the book was void of errors, removing the risk of misinterpretation. I am therefore inclined to rate The Mountain and The Goat 4 out of 4 stars. If you have kids aged ten and below and want to teach them resourcefulness, Siamak Taghaddos’ The Mountain and The Goat is a book you must have.

A wonderful book for children, especially, during this corona period when kids are at home. The mountain and The Goat will keep kids at home and teach them responsibility, all while reminding them that they are still pupils
