[Following is a volunteer review of "Waves Break (on Unknown Shores)" by Barry Litherland.]
Waves Break (on Unknown Shores) by Barry Litherland is a fictional story based on the lives of three childhood friends as narrated by Phillip Tyler (one of the friends). From a young age, the trio is inseparable as they engage in mischievous activities and many other adventures. However, one such occasion leads to the untimely demise of one of them, an event that leaves the other two hurt and distraught. Tyrone, the culprit, also happens to be the brother of Wayne Keech (a third member of the trio). It is a devastating reality that he is forced to live with.
Years pass and the two seem to have come to terms with what happened having grown well into adulthood. However, the past rears its ugly head once again when Tyrone is involved in the gruesome assault of a respectable businessman who happens to be Tina’s father (a girl dating Wayne). Consequently, the story unravels to reveal the sophisticated world of crime that Tyrone indulges in. As expected, this will eventually lead to his rather unfortunate end, which is ironically witnessed by all the people he hurt.
The book highlights a lot of problems that exist in society. Corruption is emphasized as it is the main catalyst for all the crime and drama that take place in the story. In an effort to cover up evidence, lives are lost and many more put in jeopardy. However, the book also shows the impact of true friendship as Tyler and Wayne sacrifice everything to make sure they end the crime that runs deep in the town. Most importantly, they are keen to make sure the guy who killed their friend is brought to justice at any cost.
The book is sure to keep you hooked to the end thanks to the author’s intriguing story-telling ability. He is able to utilize humor and suspense efficiently thus making the story appeal to the reader throughout as you wish to know what happens next. The plot also contains a number of twists and turns that make it rather unpredictable. Moreover, it is well edited as I did not run into spelling or grammatical errors. I therefore rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
In conclusion, this is an amazing book that will appeal to people interested in crime and drama novels. It is well put and satisfies every aspect of the genre. Despite being fictional, the story is sure to capture your emotions, a truly unique experience. Grab yourself a copy.
