[Following is a volunteer review of "The Dark Web Murders" by Brian O'Hare.]
THE DARK WEB MURDERS The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book 4 By Brian O'Hare
This book will appeal to a wide range of readers; mystery, thriller, detective, and more. Inspector Sheehan is our focal point, and he presents a reasonably quiet, non-effacing character, that while central to the story, does not seem to take center stage as often as you would expect in the best of ways. He leads his team of people so that they are all shown at equal importance to working through the case and solving it.
The subject matter is very topical for our times, the inclusion of the dark web, and people of power who utilise it to gain access to some rather nasty indulgences. While primarily concerning the murder of a judge, Inspector Sheehan and his team are hard-pressed to pinpoint the offender in this story with all the diversions attached to the case.
There is a delightful twist woven into this book that while laid out in plain sight to the reader, its import is missed. This integral piece of information so willingly shared fails to be acknowledged until the final reveal, but then again perhaps it was the fault of the reviewer and you will recognise it far more readily than I did?
I enjoyed being equally diverted by the goings-on that I did not see the conclusion to the story until it was laid plainly before me. I still had two suspects of my own at the time, and neither was the offender. With the aid of hindsight, I had the joyous moment of 'oh, of course' at the conclusion.
The story's pace keeps us fully engaged, and the details regarding the main characters are full of excellent information and depth that breaths life into each unique personality that I enjoyed and appreciated.
There was not a thing I did not like about this book; it is well-edited, and I was only able to find a few errors. I give the book a 4 out of 4, I would have been inclined toward a 3.5 as more accurate just so I could reserve the 4 out of 4 for the ultimate books who's work would remain with me for a lifetime. To earn 4 out of 4 would require the work to be an absolute classic or so unique in its genre that it leads the pack in a lasting way. That being said, it is an excellent piece of work, Dr. Brian O'Hare author of The Dark Web Murders, The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries, Book 4 is easy to digest and a pleasure to do so.
