Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is the eighth book in the Inca Cat Detective Series. The story follows the adventures of the Siberian kitty, Inca, and her detective agency. While on tour to South Korea with their human family, the agency is confronted with two tasks. These are reuniting their Korean guide with his estranged sister and protecting their mom’s valuable cheese against a greedy rival cook. Are they able to accomplish the tasks without getting into trouble?

In this fascinating quick read, Kristi used simple, fun, and friendly diary entries to achieve her aim of educating young readers. Children will find the brightly colored illustrations of this book attractive; this will help draw them into the story. This entertaining narrative is also relatable because it has a smooth connection in its engaging plot.

I enjoy reading children’s books because of the invaluable life lessons they contain; this book is not an exception. The story contains themes like teamwork, unity, kindness, friendship, loyalty, and peace. Kids will learn the importance of family bonds and the fact that family includes pets. From the pages of this book, children will get to learn about Korea because the author did an outstanding job of inserting historical facts about Korean history into it.

My favorite aspect of this book is that the few references made to the seventh book in the series didn’t prevent it from being standalone. Readers need not read the other books before attempting this one. This book is suitable for its targeted audience. Given that children have a short attention span, the entertaining nature of the story will help to engage them and sustain their focus.

There was nothing I disliked about Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula: Diary of a Snoopy Cat. It appears to be professionally edited because I found no errors in it. It contains no profanity or sexual content. I rate the book four out of four stars. I did not give it a lower rating because children will enjoy reading it. I recommend it to everyone, particularly children between ages seven to twelve years.
