An Imperfect Crime by Fred G. Baker is a mystery about three friends that devise a plan to become noticed in their careers. It may have been a far- fetched plan, but they knew it would work. However, the plan did not unfold as it was perfectly laid out by the group of friends. One man is executed for a crime he didn’t commit, and two friends go missing. The man’s priest sets forth to find out what really happened as the man’s last dying request.

Father Montero teams up with Detective Lori Sanchez of the Phoenix Police Department and embark on a journey of past of missing person cases, detective work, missing links and cartel involvement to get to the bottom of what really happened between the three friends.

Father Montero and Detective Sanchez meet day after day to brainstorm and piece together new information about the case and they begin to discover that this mystery seems to tie into some cases that occurred many years prior. The team continues to dig deeper, and they begin to discover that this case isn’t as simple as it appears on the surface.

Detective Sanchez continues with her current cartel case as she works through the missing persons case on the side. She lands herself in dangerous life-threatening situations in her career, and her new friend Father Montero sticks by her side as they continue to gather new information together and come to find out the truth behind the mysterious events that originally drew the pair together. Do they discover that the three friends’ plan worked as intended after all?

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed the ease of reading it. The story line keeps you guessing, wondering what really happened and who did what. Much of the book was filled with new leads on the case and made me want to keep turning pages to figure out what came next. The author provides insight that keeps you guessing and coming up with your own solution of what happened with each step of the mystery. As you bring together the many different cases of the book, you question if they are connected.

I disliked that at some points throughout the book, I felt that there were shifts in the story line that felt like it wasn’t connected to the plot at all. However, I was wrong. These played well into the storyline after all.

I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a good mystery. This book is well written and professionally edited. I did not find any errors.
