(This review may contain spoilers for those who have not yet completed the first three books of We are Voulhire series)

We are Voulhire: The Knights of Chalethire by Matthew Tysz is the fourth installment of the fantasy series We are Voulhire. The story follows the politics and dark powers working in the kingdom of Voulhire. Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius who were driven out of Magnus Caelum due to the attack of Riva Rohavi take shelter in the city of Chalethire, famously known for its powerful knights. Rowan takes up a job as an accountant while Galen works in a forge as a blacksmith. Demetrius approaches the Order of Joshua, a group of monks, to hone his skills. The trio flares the interest of the knights of Chalethire. The knights want the three of them to join them in their expansion battles. Paladin Harper Renard, the leader of the knights, pays a visit to Galen at the forge. He is immediately attracted to her.

In Soulhire, Lucius Nartik rules Voulhire after King Wilhelm’s death. Councillor Midius Maido of the Mianoran council doesn’t believe Nartik. He wants to save his council from the king and takes steps in that direction. Riva Rohavi, the rebellion organization is waiting for its chance to attack either Virko or Chalethire. Lord Meldorath, the powerful mage turned Eiodi, is playing his role as the leader of the Church of Destinism while waiting for the right time to travel to Caromentis, the magical universe. The story intensifies as Galen and his friends tell Paladin Harper about the demons in Virko, and they set out to fight them.

The fourth book of the We are Voulhire series is well written and suspenseful. It introduces the new city of Chalethire and the history of Voulhire that is connected to it. The author did an excellent job of describing the city. In this book, we learn about the Order of Joshua, which was not mentioned in the previous books. This book contains chapters from the first person points of view of Rowan and Demetrius. Since they are two of the main characters of the story, those chapters add more insight into their thoughts and increase the depth of the story. We learn more about the power of Meldorath, his wrath, and his love for his followers. Like every other book of this series, this book is a perfect blend of fantasy and mystery.

The thing I liked most in this book is the character of Paladin Harper. As much as I liked the previous three books, I was slightly disappointed that there was not a strong female character in them. But the character of Paladin Harper in this book offered more than I hoped for. She is strong, intelligent, and ambitious. She leads her army of knights into the battle and fights bravely. She is well admired in her city, sometimes even more than Count Elmira who rules it. I enjoyed her chapters and am looking forward to reading more about her.

There is nothing much I disliked about the book. There are very few errors that would not distract the reader. Profanities are used where necessary. There is a little more violence than in the previous books. So I recommend it to mature readers.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is a well written and finely edited story. I recommend it to readers who love fantasy and action.

Nice review, anua. Unfortunately, Harper is the one I dislike the most. She was so unchivalrous as she intentionally made Chalethire fall. Meldorath's appearance was unexpected, but the city would be conquered by Riva anyway.

Yes, she tends to be selfish sometimes. That is one of the greatest flaws of her character.

The book seems to be more interesting than the first three novels due to the addition of a strong female character. I am looking forward to getting it, but I am still reading the third novel in the series. Anyway thanks for the review.
