[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko" by Matthew Tysz.]

A young woman is demanded to take her clothes off. Three men are teasing her as she fears for her life. Her body trembles as the wind from the Virken Wood forest touches her skin. She begs for mercy, but no man can give her that. As two of them try to rape the girl, a shadow appears from the forest and slays them, leaving one knight alive. That knight’s name is Cornelius, and he was used as a trap to help Folcro kill the two knights.

We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz is the second book of the same name series. In this book, Galen has started his uncle’s business, and he is doing great. Virko has become the largest and the most powerful city in the Voulhire. Venden Hrelek is an old lord of the city, and he is on his death bed. He has one last task for Galen, and it is to take care of his son Folcro. At the same time, a dark mage called Dalehei Meldorath is forging evil plans against the people of Virko.

This book is fantastic, just like the first one. I love that the author gave every character its story. No matter how minor the character is, we know how he/she is going to behave.

We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is packed with action. The battle scenes are vividly described, and they make the reader turn the pages faster. I love the simple style of writing, which makes this book a quick read.

The style of writing is mesmerizing as the author wrote some chapters in the first person and some of them in the third person. That way, we could distinguish which way the story goes. Tysz also did a good job of keeping the character’s stories clean through the chapters. I love how he kept the consistency of the story since there were a few stories and characters that we followed through the book. I noticed that page numbers were added in this book, unlike the first one.

One thing I would like to see more developed is the connection and friendship between Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius. I think that their relationship could be explained and expressed better.

I have found no errors, and I can say this book is written and edited perfectly. There are a few minor graphic scenes and a bit of profanity present in the book.

To sum everything up, I am giving this book a solid 4 out of 4 stars for its consistency and originality. I recommend this book to fantasy and fiction lovers. This book is not suitable for younger readers and those who don’t like dark stories since it contains graphic scenes and profanity. I would like to see more books in the series since the first two books impressed me.

I have to warn the potential readers to be sure to read the first book of the series because this book is a sequel to it.

I am fan of Matthew Tysz' writing style. I love how he experimented with the different perspectives in telling the story so the book become more engaging.

I just finished reading the second part, and I truly agree with you on the excellent character development. I did find this book just a bit too brutal and violent to my taste, but am hooked nevertheless and looking forward to start reading the next part... Nice job with the review!

I agree, too many narrators will make the book inconsistent and confused. And I like the way the three main characters' relationships develop over time. It feels seamless and natural.
