[Following is a volunteer review of "Worldlines" by Adam Guest.]
What happens to us when we fall asleep? Do we die? But that can’t be it because we dream. What exactly do our dreams mean? Do they have any relation to our day to day lives? My questions all started when Gary Jackson narrowly escaped death by a lorry. It was his last day of school. He asked Michelle out, the girl he had a crush on, and for the following five years, everything went well. Well, that is until I found that in another world, Gary Jackson had been hit by a lorry. No, he didn’t die. It, however, left him with scars that would last a lifetime. In this reality, Sinead, his long time best friend, was his girlfriend. So what is the truth?
Worldlines, by Adam Guest, is a fictional book that will shift your perspective on what is real. Not necessarily because the contents of the book are correct, but because of how the author expertly brings the book to life. The read is both engaging and intriguing. The author has simplified a complex subject and made it interesting for everybody to read.
It is no secret the read is well edited. I encountered no errors while I went through it. The characters are also well developed. The author goes into detail explaining who they are and the role they play in the book. Each one of the characters is relatable, and it’s easy to see why they react the way they do. With the use of sarcasm, humor, and relatable characters, the author turned a fictional account into an undeniably exciting read.
By the first paragraph of this book, I was hooked. I knew putting the book down would be a problem, and it proved true. This made finishing the read in a short amount of time easy. What I loved most was how the author made the book flow so smoothly. He made it easy for someone who knows nothing about scientific theories to follow through. My worst part was when the innocent Gary Jackson was convicted of a murder committed by the guilty Gary Jackson.
Overall, I award the read 4 out of 4 stars. It ticked all the boxes for me. It was engaging, fun to read, educational, and above all, thought-provoking. Anyone looking for a weekend read will enjoy this piece. This read is in the sci-fi fantasy genre with an element of crime to it. Those not interested in this genre should steer clear of the book.
