Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is a children's story about a cat called Inca. She is a naturally inquisitive and outspoken cat. With these character traits, it is no surprise that she pokes her nose in other people's business, eventually solving a problem. In this particular story, Inca, her brother Fromage, her sister Cara, and a smart hamster called Charlotte, accompany their human mom to Sri Lanka on a vacation. While enjoying the sandy beaches in the new environment, a robbery occurs at the local museum. An antique sword and gold coins have gone missing. The museum's director assigns the case to Solo, an international detective, and friend to Inca's family. Inca and her friends decide to help out.

With daily entries in the journal, Inca gives a detailed description of their adventures. They follow clues strewn all over and socialize with new friends in their quest to find the stolen artifacts. Being the seventh book in the Inca Cat Detective Series, I was delighted to find the story could be read as a standalone.

I loved the lessons that come across from reading the story. The relationship between humans and animals is cordial, familiar, and loving. These are important lessons for children to learn, so they know how to treat and take care of the animals around them. There is also an emphasis put on group work and the importance of friendships, even across different backgrounds.
The illustrations done by Jorge Valle are beautiful. I especially loved the family tree that introduces Inca and her family to the readers.

I only wish the author had included more historical details around Sri Lankan culture. For instance, more information about the UNESCO World Heritage Site would have been welcome.

Because of the few images, the length of the book, and the few vocabularies I encountered, I recommend the book for children between seven and nine years. With the help of an adult, periodical reading would be ideal.

I give it four out of four stars because of all the points above, and because it was professionally edited and error-free.
