Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants, by Caleb J. Boyer, is 228 pages of excitement and adventure. It's a pure delight filled with childhood friendship, humor, fears, and fantasy. From the first moment I began reading this book, I knew it would be one I couldn't put down. I loved it from start to finish.

The author, Caleb J. Boyer, was only twelve when he completed and published this book. Since then, he has become an international best-selling author. That's an amazing achievement; accomplishing this success with a book that is a thrill for adults to read is an even greater achievement. It's as though the author's childhood leaped off the page and draws the adult reader back to fond memories of time spent with his/her own best childhood friends. The book is entertaining, playful, and imaginative.

It begins when two boys are mysteriously stranded on a beach. They lay there exhausted with their faces planted in the sand. They have no idea how they got there or how they are going to get home. The last thing they remember is playing video games together. This is a perfect starting point in their adventure. They must work as a team, discover clues, act in each other's best interests, and think before running off headfirst into danger. While the boys are pushed forward through the different quadrants of the island, they run into many surprising dangers. These are threats to their survival as traps arise and monsters give chase. All the while, the boys are out trying to find resources to survive. The challenges are as varied as the terrain they must cross. The book holds the reader's attention until the very end.

There was nothing I disliked about this book. If I had anything constructive to say, it would be to add more of a variety of monsters that attack the boys. That's it. I can't think of anything else I'd change. This book not only is a joy to read it also provides life lessons for all.

What I liked most about the book was how it gathered me up and brought me back the fun of childhood. It made me remember how enjoyable it was to be twelve hanging out with my own best friend. A book can rarely transport someone back in time. This book did this for me from the start. That's a priceless gift. The book was professionally edited. I didn't find any grammatical errors. I am pleased to give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I'd recommend it for children of every age.

I love the way the two boys go from video games to a real adventure (or one that at least seems real). Great review!

I read and enjoyed this too. The boys go through video games in real life, much like Mario and Luigi.

I also thought there were no errors, but one eagle-eyed reviewer found one. Maybe Caleb put it there for the reader to find. Can you?
