[Following is a volunteer review of "Homecoming" by Jude Austin.]
After escaping GenTech’s cloning lab, Kalin, also known as Project Kata, returns to his home planet of Trandellia with Project Tau. After discovering Kalin’s many abilities, the Trandellian government wants him to serve as their very own soldier and threatens to send Tau back to GenTech if Kalin does not follow their orders. Kalin finds himself on the planet of Atthiras on a mission to find the ambassador’s daughter before Tau is handed back over to the scientist’s at GenTech. Realizing that he has been fooled by the Trandellian government, Kalin must find a way to save Tau and himself before it is too late.
Homecoming by Jude Austin is a book that deserves four out of four stars. The book was extremely well-edited and was a super easy read. Austin’s writing style makes the book almost impossible to put down. The plot of the story is well deserving of four stars and is paced perfectly. Austin does a great job with character development keeping the reader interested and rooting for the main characters.
What I liked most about this book is the dilemmas that the characters deal with. While they are related to the story, they are also very important issues that humans are experiencing in the real world. Austin brings up issues of dysfunctional family relationships as well as human ethics. There was nothing I disliked about this book.
After reading both books in the series, I definitely like Homecoming a lot more. If the reader also read Project Tau, he/she will see that the characters grow as well as become more lovable and complex. Austin gives the reader a chance to see into the psychological side of what Project Kata and Project Tau had to experience and the way some experiences will stick with you through life.
While the book deals with a futuristic science fiction setting, I would definitely recommend this book to those who would normally shy away from it. I would definitely recommend reading Project Tau, the first book in the series, before reading Homecoming but it is not necessary. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good science fiction book mixed with a bit of drama. However, there is some profanity in the book so I would not recommend it for younger children. I sincerely hope that there will be a third book in this series that will continue with the journey of Kata and Tau.
