Minor Arcana is the 2nd book in the series, "The Dark Emeralds", by Jerry Lambert. Though part of a series, it can still be read as a stand alone story without the reader feeling they are missing out on what is going by not reading the 1st book.
Minor Arcana is told from the perspective of both past and present day New Orleans.

In present day New Orleans, the reader is introduced to Georganne Blaylock, an interior designer and her business partner, Tom Standridge. Almost a year since the night of horrifying events, Ms Blaylock is still trying to rebuild her life, her career and reputation.

Past day New Orleans finds the reader meeting a madam coming into some trouble and running for her life. This serves as the prologue connecting the past and present.
What does this madam and Ms Blaylock have in common? The connection has to do with the mysterious house called "Bridlewood" and hidden gems.

I do recommend reading this book to find out more. I give it 4 out of 4.
