I have to admit, it had been some time since a book had made me cry. However, Dying Well, written by Susan Ducharme Hoben, recently changed that for me, and I thank her for that. Before reading Dying Well, I was apprehensive because I assumed it was going to contain a sappy love story with a predictable death. However, I was greatly mistaken. The book not only takes you on the characters journey, but has you pondering what your own journey will be like in the future.

Dying well is a story told by a woman who goes by the name of Susie. Susie's husband, Bruce Hoben, finds out he has a tumor in his esophagus, which also happens to be cancerous. They are no strangers to cancer because Susie is a survivor of breast cancer. Through Bruce's journey, he ultimately decides to live his life as best as he possibly can before he leaves the world. Hint the name of the book, his last goal of his life is to simply die well, while being surrounded by those who he loves.

While reviewing my previous books, I often questioned if I should rate them 4 stars or 3 stars, or possibly even lower. With this book, there was not a doubt in my mind. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was so captivating to me, and made me cry harder than I thought I would! I did not decide to give it 3 stars because the storyline was just too great in my opinion. Additionally, I had only found a single grammatical error, which to me was definitely not enough to drop the rating down to 3 stars.

While reading, I enjoyed learning so many details of the character's story. Little details such as the dates and times of events made it that much more interesting and real for the reader. I love how Susan went in chronological order of what happened, and even included the people who were also a part of their journey, whether them being a friend or family member. I have to say, I could not find a single thing I disliked about the book. I thought the editing of the book was exceptional, and had only found the one grammatical error.

Audience wise, I think everyone should read this book! There is no erotic scenes, and only uses one curse word throughout the entire book! This book can be so helpful with learning to process similar things that may be going on in one's life. Or, if you aren't experiencing what the characters are, I still think it teaches a lesson of cherishing every moment with the ones you love. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone willing to give it a try!
