[Following is a volunteer review of "An Imperfect Crime" by Fred G. Baker.]
Have you ever watched a movie or read a book, and you felt like you were literally in the characters' minds and could experience everything they experienced? An Imperfect Crime by Fred G. Baker takes you on a ride with Detective Lori Sanchez and Father Guillermo Montero while investigating a series of murders and kidnapping cases.
Three friends plan to stage a perfect murder scene to garner the public attention needed to get their books published. The murder scene would be ideal, leaving all evidence for the police except for the body because the crime will not happen. One year after their plan was put in place, one is tried for murder and executed. Father Guillermo Montero believes that the man who was executed was innocent, so he seeks the help of Detective Lori Sanchez to help him uncover the mystery behind the case. Both look into the case, and along the way, several stunning revelations were made. Read to find out the mystery behind this murder case.
The book is action-packed. The readers are exposed to undercover operations, high chase pursuits, and so much more. I was able to follow the characters step by step as they investigated several mysterious disappearances and murders. One thing that made the storyline compelling was the suspense. It had me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning. The author’s writing style is simple and easy to understand. Although the book lacked page numbers, it was divided into 28 well-constructed chapters.
The plot was very realistic, and the development of the characters was incredible. Also, the characters vividly conveyed emotions. My favorite character in the book was Father Guillermo Montero. I loved the fact that he kept his promise to Peter Simpson. He also showed selflessness and bravery. I was expecting some closure at the end of the book, but I loved how it ended. It kept the reader in suspense and made way for a sequel.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. The book is professionally edited because I did not find any grammatical or punctuation errors while reading. I loved the tone and style of the author's writing. Also, the storyline was very captivating. Therefore, I am rating An Imperfect Crime 4 out of 4 stars. The book did contain minor instances of profanity and some sexual references. The sexual content was minimal as no scene was described explicitly, but there were mentions of rape, sex trafficking, and forced prostitution. I am sure lovers of mystery, adventure, and crime thrillers would enjoy this book.
